About Angik

Angik is a theatre group (registered under REGISTRATION OF SOCIETIES ACT XXI OF 1860;

Reg no:- SPR/242/I/20 of 2017-18) founded by Sonit jyoti Saikia and a bunch of creative peolple in the year 2014, with its head office at Dipota, Tezpur. The focus area of the group is Children and Adolescent theatre. Angik has already produced as many as twenty

numbers of plays with children and adolescents of different districts of Assam. Angik has conducted theatre workshops in and around Tezpur since its inception every year in the month of July and December. A bunch of creative people from Assam and other Northeast states is associated with Angik and has been a part of our journey. Angik has also started its new branch in Sapekhati, Charaidew,Assam since December 2020.

Since the year 2018, Angik has included ‘Theatre in Education’ & ‘Drama in Education’ to its faculty. Angik has collaborated with National School of Drama, TIE Wing Tripura in organizing Theatre in Education Workshop entitled “Acting for Creativity” in the month of September 2018. Angik has also worked with teachers and parent community of Tezpur in several occasions to share the importance of Theatre in development and education of a

child. Angik has also taken up workshops with teachers on “Drama Integration” & "Curriculum Drama”. Angik has engaged NSD, TIE Wing alumni for such works and events. Angik has also collaborated with National School of Drama, New Delhi in Production oriented children theatre workshop under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav- The Usung Hero of Independence’ in March 2022. In this occasion it has conducted children workshop from 14

Feb 2022 to 22 March 2022 and produced a play ‘U Kiang Nangbah- the untold legend of Jaintia’. Sonit Jyoti Saikia, Alumnus NSD TIE Wing, was the workshop director and Tirtha

Our works

Some of the major works of the group are:

1) Kurukshetra(an adaptation of Ganesh Gogoi’s Xokunir Protixudh)-2011, Baan Theatre,Tezpur.

2) Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla’s ploay Rupalim –2012, Dipota Kendria Natya Mandir,Dipota,Sonitpur.

3) Nata Surjya Phani Sharma’s Siraaj – 2013, Dipota Kendria Natya Mandir,Dipota,Sonitpur.

4) Akou Saraighatoloi (an adaptation of Sahitya Kandari Padmanath Gohain Baruah’s play Lachit Borphukan) – 2014, Baan Theatre,Tezpur.(in collaboration with IFCRO & Darrang College Theatre Repertory)

5) Obastob Muluk Bastob Kahini a satirical play on witch hunting written & directed by Sonit Jyoti Saikia – 2015, Haleswar Natya Mandir, Haleswar,Sonitpur(organised by Haleswar Yuva Sangha).

6)Late Dipak Mahanta’s child play Xiyali palegoi Ratanpur – 2016, Kadamkali Natya Mandir, Milanpur,Sonitpur(organised by Ankur Natya Gusthi).
